Etymology:
Honoring a noted herpetology.
Graptemys — Greek graptos = “marked” or “inscribed” + emys = “turtle” — “inscribed turtle,” referring to the carapace patterns.
barbouri — Patronym honoring Thomas Barbour (1884–1946), American herpetologist.
