Etymology: Named for its isolated and narrow habitat.
Batrachoseps — Greek batrachos = “frog” + seps = “lizard”
simatus — Latin simatus = “snub-nosed” or possibly derived from simus = “flattened,” perhaps referencing head shape or body form.
