Etymology:1
  Latin - gracile - slender, delicate
Original Description:2 
  Siredon gracilis Baird (1859, Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to Ascertain the Most Practicable and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean. Volume 10, part 4, number 4: 13). Syntypes: USNM 4080 (2 larval specimens). Type locality: "Cascade Mountains, near latitude 40° [N.]", Oregon.
Distribution:
  Extreme southeastern Alaska south to the mouth of the Gualala River, Sonoma County, California.
