Taxonomic Comments:
de Queiroz (1992 Biological Journal of the Linnaean Society 45: 333-362) recognized scoparia as a distinct species. Powell, Collins and Hooper (1998 A Key to the Amphibians and Reptiles of the Continental United States and Canada. University Press of Kansas, Lawrence. vi + 131 pp.) recognized this taxon as a distinct species. Wilgenbusch and de Queiroz (2000 Systematic Biology 49(3): 592-612), using mtDNA, provided evidence that this taxon may consist of two distinct species.
