Taxonomic Comments:
Altig et al. (1998. Contemporary Herpetology Information Series No. 2: 1-39) considered this taxon conspecific with P. triseriata. Powell, Collins and Hooper (1998. A Key to Amphibians and Reptiles of the Continental United States and Canada. University Press of Kansas, Lawrence. vi + 131 pp.) considered maculata a distinct species. Lemmon, Emily M., Alan R. Lemmon, Joseph T. Collins, Julie A. Lee-Yaw, & David C. Cannatella [2007. Phylogeny-based delimitation of species boundaries and contact zones in the trilling chorus frogs (Pseudacris). Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 44: 1068-1082], using DNA and acoustics combined with previous morphological and behavioral evidence, demonstrated that Pseudacris maculata is a distinct species and refined its range in North America. Standard common name remains Boreal Chorus Frog.
